The summer session was held on the September 7-14, 2016, at the hospitable lodge Stará Pila, in the beautiful Jizerka hamlet, Jizerske mountains.

Day 1 was about Altitude medicine

Ivana tells: Dr. Jana Kubalová presented the specifics of high mountain environment, human’s physiology and acclimatization. We discussed the symptoms and therapy of HAPE (high altitude pulmonary edema), HACE (high altitude cerebral edema) and other altitude pathologies. Another interesting topic was Nutrition at altitude and a practice with the hyperbaric chamber (Gamow bag).

Dr.Dominique Jean presented the topics of women, children and pregnant women going to altitude.

Day 2 was about expedition medicine and trauma in the field

Dr. Dominique Jean presented medical aspects of the expedition medicine (teeth, eyes, asthma, epilepsy, cardiovascular diseases, etc…) and Dr. Johan Holmgren contributed with his presentation about Drug use and abuse in the mountains.

Dr. Kristina Höschlová demonstrated with several videos the accidents related to mountain sports, which followed by the „Trauma in the field management“ workshop.
